Brad's Home N' Rec

A home and hangout spot made by Brad to entertain/protect his friends. The second-to-last home players may explore, this home challenges the ideals of Lunarvale while straying the line between complacency and rebellion.

Design

Brad's home by design contrasts the rest of Lunarvale's homes, being more akin to an American college dormitory than an Eastern-style home. This is further complimented with basic furniture like Outdoor benches and Double sofas, things that contrast the complexity and detail of homes like Marianne's and Nate's. And in conjunction with gym equipment in the bathroom and several jars of protein around the home, makes Brad, for lack of a better term, look like a gym bro.

A majority of the furniture seen in Brad's home is video game/sports-related. With the exception of the second floor, not a single book can be found in Brad's home, either. Generally, the design of Brad's home is an inversion of the "Book Dumb" trope applied to jock characters like Ryuji Sakamoto from Persona 5 and Kronk Pepikrankenitz from The Emperor's New Groove. Like them, despite being characterized as generally unintelligent, Brad is actually more perceptive than Marianne is.

History

Much like Hilda's original home, Brad's home was originally intended to be a single room, taking the place of an actual gym setting rather than a home with sports equipment inside. This was to reflect an early idea where Brad would have been Marianne's lackey, a minion with an "F" in evil. This was changed as there's no real villain in Lunarvale, just a series of missteps and misunderstandings.

Originally Brad's second floor would have been an arcade, but it was decided against since the basement in the dream home already fit that purpose, and so did the actual gym. So it was turned into a spare room in the spirit of Lunarvale because the contrast would be quote, "admittedly pretty funny."

Trivia

  • Marianne doesn't like Brad's home, thinking of it as an offense to Lunarvale's culture. However, she's largely been unable to mandate the changes, as such an action requires both the input of the Happy Home Academy and the Lunarvale Welcoming Committee.
  • In Lunarvale's narrative, the basement area seen in the dream island is a hidden room of sorts. Since Pandora doesn't pay much attention to it, Brad and his friends use that area as they please. Marianne would probably enter a sort of "rage mode" if this was discovered, however.
  • Brad's upstairs room is completely furnished in red, contradicting the rest of the home. This is because he didn't know what to do with it, so he let Marianne use it as a spare room in exchange for temporarily backing off.
  • You'll notice that Brad has several posters of female celebrities like Ankha, Olivia, Sasha (don't tell him) and Label. This is a reference to the fact that Brad is a straight man (contrary to popular belief.)
  • The line of Zap Suits seen in the basement is a reference to the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series, as the lineup is the same as one seen in a viral set photo.
